So, it’s been a while since I’ve posted here, I blame Covid-19, finishing my PhD, writing a chapter for a new book on Rhythmanalysis and so much Zoom…But I’m back, with some links to the research I’ve published and news of new work in the offing. Firstly my PhD, if you would like to read […]

The Vox Pop Velociped
I have been developing a way of gathering audience feedback from outdoor events which is a bit more fun than the usual questionnaire. The Vox Pop Velociped is a mobile interview platform designed for short punchy interviews with audience members. The customised tricycle can pedal around capturing images of the event in the background whilst […]
How would a Rhythmanalysis work and what is it for?
Several people have been asking for more details on precisely what commissioning a Rhythmanalysis is for, what it would entail and what they would get at the end. There are a variety of possibilities and I have tried to sum them up in the diagram below. (Or here if that’s too small to read) At […]
Research-led experiments with Time-lapse
I have spent Christmas and New Year deep in research into all things time-lapse in preparation for my next PhD Viva. This has thrown up some new ideas for ways to present the footage and a lot of theory around the way time-lapse works on our perceptions. My personal favourite is the Russian Professor who […]
A Short (20 min) Lecture: What is rhythmanalysis? by Dr Dawn Lyon
This short lecture introduces Dr Dawn Lyon’s research using time-lapse in Billingsgate Fish Market. She also gives an introduction to Lefebvre’s concept of Rhythmanalysis. If you are interested in the theory and uses of time-lapse rhythmanalysis its definitely worth a look. Like me, she cites Paul Simpson as a key source in the practice.
ISAN Making Waves Conference Presentation
The video below is the presentation I gave at Making Waves in November 2017. It gives an overview and some examples of the current state of my research into outdoor arts. If you are interested in the project please take this very short survey so I can keep you in the loop.
Would you be interested in Artizani conducting a rhythmanalysis into audience behaviour at your event?
I am using the following short survey to collect details about people and organisations who may be interested in the project. It would also help with funding the research if I can demonstrate that there is interest from the sector. Click here to take the Survey
Rhythmanalysis intro video
A short video introducing the analysis of outdoor arts through rhythmanalysis using time-lapse video documentation.
Outdoor Arts Reading List
Some of these sources are journal articles which might be difficult to access if you are not a member of a university library – drop me a line if you want to read something here which you can’t find and I will try to help. If you know of something which should be on the […]
